  • It is Unique.

    It is Unique.

It is one of a kind. No other community in the United States is known by the name "ALVO". Early settlers had come to this area as early as 1869, they had established post-offices, school district and towns. The railroad was the main means of transportation , so towns were established along it's lines.

Alvo reportedly received its name from the first child born after the community began to form around the depot. Her name was Alvo and she was the daughter of the railroad's master.

N-63 Alvo North Open!

N-63 is open to through traffic as of December 1.  This completes Phase I of a 2 Phase project, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. The section of N-63 closed this year was approximately one-half mile south of I-80 and consisted of box culvert construction, re-alignment of the existing highway and erosion control items.  Minor work, like seeding and erosion control installation, may still be performed.

The second phase will begin in March 2018.  During this phase, N-63 will be closed to traffic from Reference Post 4+20 to Reference Post 9+68.  A detour will be marked for through traffic for this phase.

The project is anticipated to be completed by November 2018.

The Department’s project manager for this project is Jesse De Los Santos of Lincoln.  Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through construction work zones.

This notice is directed toward those who flushed their shop towels, baby wipes and other non-degradable items down their toilets - the Village has to replace two pumps at the sewage lagoon to the tune of $10,000. That will cause delays in working on required improvements to the drinking water system. This will cost everyone in town when new sewer and water rates are set.

Rural Fire Board meeting dates are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month for the first four months of 2018. (January 9th, February 13th, March 13th and April 10th at 7:30 at the Eagle Fire and Rescue Station, 705 South 1st, Eagle, NE)

If you bank at Farmers and Merchants Bank of Ashland - the business hours have changed.

Thanks to Karen for the Nebraska State flag - it will fly until March 1st, 2018 to celebrate Nebraska 150.

DRY, DRY, DRY - NO CHANGE in the last 2 weeks. No counties in Nebraska have normal moisture levels. 5 are normal to abnormally dry, 83 are abnormally dry, 2 are normal to abnormally dry to moderate drought and 3 are abnormally dry to moderate drought. We need snow! There are no severe drought conditions anywhere in our state. However - the southwest panhandle is facing long term abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions, meaning the dry spell is lasting more than six months.

Nationally, only Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Michigan, Wisconsin and Rhode Island and Alaska - and Puerto Rico have normal moisture levels. This is a slight improvement over last week.

Just a reminder, Peurto Rico is still short of power and drinkable water. Click on the image to see how Nebraska compares to other states.
